Thailand has a number of international airports servicing both international and domestic airline travel, there are also many more domestic airports in Thailand servicing the local market. Carriers including Thai Airways and Air Asia fly a number of domestic and international routes into and out of various Thai airports. In total the Kingdom of Thailand has 38 commercial airports.

Due to the numbers of international flights daily, Thailand is an easy destination to get to from most anywhere in the world. Additionally, with the number of international airports servicing the region, travelers can easily land close to or directly into their favorite travel spot.

Don Mueang International Airport

Airport Code: DMK

Once the largest airport in Thailand and formally the 18th busiest on the planet, Don Mueang has been replaced as Thailand’s primary passenger airport by the newer Suvarnabhumi Airport. Don Mueang International Airport currently serves as a Low Cost Carrier Terminal - LCCT.

Chiang Rai International Airport

Airport Code: CEI

Chiang Rai International Airport is located in the city of Chiang Rai in the northern area Thailand. The airport is located about 10km from the city center. Access to the airport is available via an access road linking the airport with Phahonyothin Road which leads southbound to the city center, Chiang Mai. Bus Terminal 2 services a range of buses traveling all the way to Bangkok and northbound to Mae Chan, Mae Sai and the Thai-Myanmar border.

The airport handles over 500,000 passengers, 3,900 flights and 2,700 tons of cargo every year. It consists of a single passenger terminal with both the international and domestic arrivals and departures handled on the same floor but in separate areas.

Hat Yai is a welcoming gateway for all visitors who want to visit the south of Thailand for business or pleasure. It is also an important exit point for Muslims on their annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The airport is located 9 km from downtown Hat Yai.

Situated on the northern end of Phuket Island, Phuket International Airport is the second busiest airport in Thailand owing both to the popularity of Phuket and the many attractions in nearby Krabi and Phang Nga provinces. Samui International Airport

Airport Code: USM

Bangkok Airways built its first airport at Koh Samui, a major resort island in the Gulf of Thailand. Samui Airport is located at the northern part of the island near Bo Put Beach. Bangkok Airways' southern airport hub, it not only serves as gateway to a multitude of natural destinations but it is also a place where passengers can relax and unwind at its numerous facilities.

U-Tapao International Airport

Airport Code: UTP

Located in Rayong a beach town 90km (140m) southeast of Bangkok, U-Tapao primarily functions as the base for the Royal Thai Navy First Air Wing. However a number of commercial airlines fly in and out of U-Tapao providing a closer point for passenger landings to Pattaya than that of Suvarnabhumi (BKK) International Airport.

Krabi International Airport

Airport Code: KBV

Krabi International Airport (KBV) is located about 15 km from Krabi city center. Krabi Airport is a gateway to Thai beach resorts on Had Yao, Ao Nang, Rai Leh and Koh Lanta. Thai Airways and Nok Air operate daily direct flights from Bangkok, Air Asia from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Tiger Airways flies direct to and from Singapore and Darwin.

Udon Thani International Airport

Udon Thani International Airport (UTH) is located near the city of Udon Thani in Udon Thani Province in the northeast region of Thailand. It is approximately 280 miles (450 km) northeast of Bangkok and currently offers domestic flights to Bangkok landing at either Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports respectively, and Chiang Mai.

Udon Thani Airport is located near northern border with Laos and is frequently used as a transit point to Vientiane, Laos via Nong Khai Friendship bridge. Vientiane, the capital of Laos, is about one and a half hours away across the Mekong river.

Surat Thani Airport

The airport is located 21 kilometers west of Surat Thani city. In addition to civilian services, Surat Thani airport is also an active Royal Thai Air Force Base. Transportation services to and from the airport include private taxi and shared minivan. Bus transfers are available to Surat Thani City, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Krabi, Pang Nga and Phuket. Car rental is also available.
