10 Incredibly Clever Packing Hacks

I've searched high and low to find some of the best time and cost saving packing 'hacks' for the female traveler. No matter the location or duration of the trip, these tips will save my fellow female travelers time and money when it comes to packing for their next trip.

1. Roll Don't Fold

Much like the great toilet paper debate, its either fold, roll or scrunch? The jury is out on which is the best way to pack – it’s to roll! For those who have mastered this technique, they are able to travel months at a time without the need to haul luggage from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ – its carry-on only, all the way. Master this simple way of packing and the world is indeed your oyster!

2. Fresh Is Best

By placing a number of dryer sheets such as Fluffy Fabric Softener Dryer Sheets between clothing when packing clothes impart a fresh, clean smell for the duration of the trip.

3. Wrinkle Free Solutions

When arriving at the destination hotel unroll and smooth out clothes before placing them on a hanger. To remove any remaining creases from clothing spray a little water, then place the clothes (which are on the hanger) into the bathroom and hook them onto the towel rail. The steam from the shower will remove most creases if left overnight.

4. Dual Stuffing

The premise here is to take advantage of whatever space you have including the cavities of your shoes. Items including socks, underwear and plastic bags, easily fit inside shoes, making it the perfect location for these small items. Shoe cavities are also the best location for fragrance and perfume bottles – always be sure to wrap them in plastic first.

5. Balance

In life its all about balance and packing is no different. If packing suitcases or small carry-on luggage with casters or wheels, place the heaviest items at the bottom of the case. When the bag is in its standing position, the center of gravity is at its lowest, minimizing the dreaded tip over especially when dashing to the airline gate.

6. Skincare Straws

Trim the makeup bag down significantly by filling drinking straws with your favorite skin care products. Firstly, heat seal one end then carefully pour the products into the straw, seal the end, and voila - you have just significantly reduced the weight of the bag while having the benefit of taking your favorite beauty products with you.

7. Shower Cap Shoes

Use shower caps, old or new to cover shoes before packing to ensure clothes remain clean and dirt free.

8. Portable Jewelery Box

Place jewelery between two sheets of plastic wrap to avoid tangles. Roll the sheets into a sausage shape and store in the shoe cavity.

9. Bitter Pill

Place earrings and small items of jewelery including rings, into a pill bottle. They stack nicely, and save room at the same time.

10. Lightweight Luggage

No matter the size or style of luggage you will be traveling with, many suitcases can weigh up to four kilograms. By doing a little homework your back and luggage weight limit can improve dramatically.
